Maddox didn't spend years trying to shop his book to a publisher, a publisher approached him based on the popularity of his Web site. It's a model that's seen in several books this year, such as "Real Ultimate Power: The Official Ninja Book," by Robert Hamburger (pseudonym). From the CNN.com article

I think some of my friends own that book. They say it's funny.

Eh, I read Maddox's website once and it wasn't funny at all. It was basically some random guy ranting about random shit. Just like every idiot on the internet: begging for attention but not having anything interesting to say. Oh yeah, and ha ha, Chuck Norris.
